Features and Benefits

Your solution to better meet your department's vehicle stabilization needs

As you and your crew on truck head out of the station, you're trying to get a picture in your mind of what this MVC looks like and what, if any, extrication will be required by you and your people. And while that's a lot going on in your head, one thing you're not worried about is your crew's ability to stabilize the vehicle, regardless of its orientation, when your department has invested in Junkyard Dog Rescue Struts.

A Completely Self-Contained Strut System

With Junkyard Dog Rescue Struts, your department gets a completely self-contained strut that gives your crew a vehicle stabilization system that’s easier to deploy for safer, more effective, and more efficient vehicle stabilization with fewer personnel. All components fit into its accessory bag attached directly to the strut ensuring that a firefighter has everything they need for deploying the strut without having to return to the fire apparatus. After deployment, the accessory bag functions as a repository for excess ratchet strap to eliminate any tripping or entanglement hazard.

Forget cumbersome, complicated, cribbing.

Say goodbye to expensive shoring and finally get rid of your large quantities of wood cribbing. Junkyard Dog Rescue Struts have proven, over and over, that in-vehicle rescue situation when time is critical, less equipment definitely does do more.

A Better Way to Stabilize the Modern Passenger Vehicle

Newer passenger vehicles are a different animal. Vehicle design engineers, in their pursuit of lighter and more aerodynamic automobiles (to improve gas mileage ratings) began creating vehicles with more rounded body styles. Additionally, advances in steel production technology and carbon fiber technology and plastics used to manufacture those designs have resulted in a vehicle that acts like a spring when it rolls or bounces. The best way to stabilize a “beach ball” car is with tensioned buttresses. A buttress is simply a column (in this case, a strut) tipped over with its top anchored to the car. Next, a tensioning device (ratchet strap) is used to pull the base of the strut towards the car thereby applying an even force to the car in both a sideways and upward direction. The use of struts as tensioned buttresses results is a wider vehicle “footprint” that decreases the likelihood of the vehicle tipping over during the extrication keeping both patients and rescuers safer.

Made in the USA

All Junkyard Dog Rescue Strut straps are now Berry Compliant, 100% made in USA, and made with strength and vigor in mind for some of the toughest military applications. Junkyard Dog Rescue Strut’s new straps are engineered with enhanced durability and so that they can keep a strong, tight grip over the load with maximum wear resistance, helping to make the securement job easier- all while meeting and exceeding several additional industry standards. Each Strap have a 1300 lb. (WLL) (3335 lb WLL for Heavy Duty Strut) with a 3:1 safety factor.

Keeping both patients and rescuers safer

Better vehicle stabilization that leads to safer operations is what the entire family of struts by Junkyard Dog Industries is all about. The use of struts as tensioned buttresses results is a wider vehicle “footprint” that decreases the likelihood of the vehicle tipping over during the extrication keeping both patients and rescuers safer.

When Time is Critical, Less Equipment Does More

These simple, self-contained, lightweight rescue struts work on the "tension buttress" principle for quick and secure deployment that allows even a single firefighter to stabilize a vehicle faster, better, and often far more easily than a team of rescuers with a truck full of cribbing and connectors.

Fewer Firefighters Necessary to Deploy Struts

Lightweight, self contained, with no complicated assembly, Junkyard Dog Rescue Struts are mission-built to allow even a single firefighter to stabilize a vehicle faster, better, and often far more easily than a team of rescuers with a truck full of cribbing and connectors. This leaves remaining firefighters available to engage in other critical vehicle extrication tasks (e.g., hazard control, deployment and operation of rescue tools, providing patient care).

Creates Lateral Stability

A laterally unstable structure is able to twist, buckle sideways, or fall over. Tension buttress stabilizes from the sides keeping pathways open for rescuers and EMS to access patients. Junkyard Dog Rescue Struts provide lateral stability with a larger footprint, similar to an outrigger, effectively stabilizing.

Make an Infinite Number of Adjustments

From a technical viewpoint, the ZSTRUT's polymer coated base provides a better grip while the base and clevis operate separately so base will stay flat on the ground. A larger clevis allows for a firefighter to more easily pass the ratchet strap head through for single strap triangulation while the 304 stainless steel-threaded rod gives a firefighter the capability of making an infinite number of adjustments to meet any vehicle stabilization challenge. The ZStrut’s patented ZipNut technology gives the firefighter more capability to make those finer adjustments to maintain vehicle stabilization that follows along with other vehicle extrication tasks (e.g., air bag lifts).

Rated to Deploy with Confidence

Firefighters can deploy Junkyard Dog Rescue Struts with confidence knowing that the struts have a safe working load limit up to 5000 lbs. with a 2:1 safety factor (results of testing conducted by independent third-party). The Heavy Duty Strut is rating at over 10,000 lbs with a 2:1 safety factor.

Simple

Junkyard Dog Rescue Struts are intentionally designed to be simple. Simple to store. Simple in design. Simple to train and simple to deploy with no complicated assembly. Junkyard Dog Rescue struts have proven, over and over, that in-vehicle rescue situation when time is critical, less equipment definitely does do more. It only takes one rescuer to carry two JYD Rescue struts. and JYD's struts can be easily applied by one rescuer.

The ZSTRUT Style Brings You a Revolutionary Concept - No More Adjustment Pins.

Junkyard Dog ZSTRUT Style Rescue Struts use a uniquely-engineered deployment method that eliminates the need for pins altogether. That’s in no small part due to the patented ZipNut Technology, a uniquely engineered deployment method that eliminates the need for pins altogether. At the MVC scene, a firefighter simply pulls up on the ZSTRUT to achieve the required length, turns the strut’s collar to fine-tune the adjustment, then pulls up on the collar to retract – no pins required!

Portable

Portable, compact, and self-contained, easily store your strut anywhere for rapid deployment. The base plate is capable of pivoting 180 degrees while the built-in attachment ring, or clevis, folds flat for easier storage. The accessory bag is intentionally sized to conform with the base plate, not to extend further, making compartment-mounting simple. PAC mounts made specifically for Junkyard Dog Struts are part of the Junkyard Dog product line and available from all authorized distributed.

Concept & Design

Better vehicle stabilization that leads to safer operations is what the entire family of Junkyard Dog Rescue Struts is all about.

Constructed with a 4-gauge solid wall steel outer tube, inner threaded stainless-steel column, a double ZipNut® adjustment OR stainless steel locking pins, and military-grade ratchet and axle straps, JYD’s Rescue Struts are engineered to effectively accommodate conventional and ultra-modern vehicle construction features. Each rescue strut is powder-coated for an enduring finish and includes a Vinyl coated polyester accessory pouch containing accessories not in use.

Self-contained, lightweight, and easy to use, JYD Rescue Struts work on the “tension buttress” principle for quick and secure deployment.

Why Berry Compliance Matters?

The Berry Amendment has been critical to maintaining the safety and security of our armed forces by requiring specific fabrics/textiles to be produced in the United States, as well as ensuring the continued operation of certain US production lines, jobs to American factory workers, and safeguarding the U.S. military from dependence on foreign sources for critical items that could lead to supply problems. With respect to textiles and clothing, the Berry Amendment has been critical to the viability of the textile and clothing production base in the United States. Additional information on the Berry Amendment can be found below.
